PCCA’s COVID-19 COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

As a result of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the financial and social impact has negatively impacted citizens and entire communities throughout the Nation. Many citizens have succumbed to the virus, many more are confined to hospitals, and many businesses have been closed resulting in citizens losing their jobs, their livelihoods, and incomes resulting in families becoming destitute. Citizens are encouraged to “stay in place”, follow the social distancing rule, practice frequent hand washing methods, wear face protection masks and absolutely no hand-shaking and hugging/embracing.

Pittsylvania County Community Action, Inc.’s mission for 56 years has been to help people who are in need of assistance. In addition to the programs currently operated by PCCA to assist citizens, PCCA has prepared itself to assist with three (3) additional programs in an attempt to accommodate the needs of the citizens of its service area. These programs are: (1)Gift Cards, (2) Medication/Prescriptions, and (3) Rent/Utilities/Mortgages assistance.

To receive either of the three (3) service programs, clients are required to complete the application process indicating their hardship, and upon approval, the applicant will be eligible to receive either or each of the services.

(1) PCCA has an agreement with the local Food Lion Grocery Store to purchase Gift Cards that will allow citizens to purchase food items, hygiene supplies, household supplies, etc. that are needed. Clients are prohibited from purchasing tobacco or alcohol products when using Gift Cards.

(2) PCCA has agreements with several local pharmacists to order various essential items that citizens are finding difficulty in securing, and pharmacists will deliver requested items to the PCCA Administrative Office for distribution, located at 348 North Main Street - Chatham, Virginia 24531. In addition, prescriptions will be filled upon receipt of referrals from doctors or health-care providers to maintain the health of participating applicants during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

(3) While there is a moratorium imposed by the governing officials in our areas in regards to the disconnection of utilities and clients being removed from their property(s), when the moratorium is lifted, these payments will have to be satisfied. PCCA will assist families who have received disconnect, eviction or foreclosure notices.

Payments will be paid directly to the electrical provider, to landlords, or to financial institutions. All requests for assistance will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
